SELF-EXAMINATION

Lamentations 3:40

INTRODUCTION:  This is one of the most needed works that a person needs to do.  It must be an honest examination or it is not going to help you at all.  When the examination is made, then we need to carry out in obedience the things that God shows us.   Revival will come when we do this.

I.   SELF-EXAMINATION IS THE PURE ACT OF LOVE FOR GOD

A.   You want to be in the best kind of condition

                                 i.      Not allowing anything to get between you and God

ii.     Longing to have Him satisfied with your life

iii.    Joyous to know that He will help those that are willing to follow His way

B.   Desiring to be totally agreeable with God

                                 i.      A "yes man" and glad of it

                                 ii.     Obeying with questioning

iii.    Proving His way will make things so much better

II.  SELF-EXAMINATION IS THE PRIVATE WORK BETWEEN YOU AND GOD

A.   Nobody but God knows what your need is and He will fix you up

                                  i.      Man is not going to help you apart from the Lord

ii.     So many people depend on the advise of others

iii.    They don’t know the heart—but God does

B.   You need an inward cleaning regularly

                                  i.      It will keep you in shape for the journey

ii.     It will keep you spiritually alert

iii.    It will make you "gun barrel" straight

III.   SELF-EXAMINATION SOFTENS THE HEART THAT GIVES YOU PEACE WITHIN

A.   The Christian is happy when the softness is there

                                    i.      Love begins to spring up in their hearts

ii.     Because this is the way God planned it

iii.    Tears are a part of the Christian life

iv.    They are needed to wash out all the crude that builds up

B.   "Joy bells" will be in perfect tune

IV.   SELF-EXAMINATION IS THE MOST PROFITABLE WORK THAT YOU CAN DO

A.   It causes you to be faithful with knowledge

                                    i.      Of how it will bless the Lord

ii.     Of how it will help others see

iii.    Of how it will help you to feel good about yourself

B.   It causes you to be concerned about sin in your life

                                    i.      You won’t like what you see—but there is something you can do about it

ii.     No Christian wants sin in their life

V.   SELF-EXAMINATION BUILDS CHARACTER IN YOUR LIFE

              A.   Doing right just between you know the value that it will bring

                  B.   Doing right will come out on your face and bring joy to others

                  C.  It will stop the murmuring and discontentment in your life
