“Does It Stink Where You Are At?”
Jonah 1:1, 2, 17; 2:1, 10

Sunday Morning Service – March 25, 2018
We do not have to run very far from God in order for our life to stink. Honestly though, sometimes it is good for us to be in a place where we stink because it is then our mind set will change and so will our thinking. Jonah smelt himself. It is a blessed thing when the Holy Ghost tells us that we stink. If we are not careful, the ministry God has us in, our Bible reading, and our prayer life will begin to stink. So, what causes us to stink?
- Always happens when it comes to disobedience.
Jonah was disobedient to God.
Jonah did not blame his circumstances on anyone else.
The moment Jonah started to disobey God, his life started to stink.
The more he disobeyed the more his life stunk.
- There’s a deliberate lifestyle.
Jonah deliberately went on living a disobedient, stinking life.
Elimelech – affected his family by living a deliberate lifestyle away from God.
David – sinned against the Lord but kept living his life with the sin.
Lot – Lost everything because he kept a life that was deliberate in disobedience.
- Wanted people to think he was in peace.
Jonah fell asleep even though he was far away from God.
Jonah pretended to be at peace.
He fell asleep so he couldn’t hear from God.
- He was remembering the power of God.
The storm reminded Jonah of who God was.
Jonah started getting help from God when he started remembering who God is.
- God wanted to talk to Jonah
There was no earthly reason God should have wanted to talk to Jonah, but God did.
Wonder how many times God tried to talk to Jonah before he got in the belly of the whale.
Does your life stink this morning? Are you living a life of disobedience from God? If your life stinks, it is because you chose for it to stink. If your life stinks, do not blame someone else. It is your fault that your life stinks. Are you deliberately going on away from God, living a deliberate lifestyle? God will hear the prayer of a sinner. You deliberately do not pray and read your Bible because you do not want to hear from God. You don’t want God to convict you of the wrongs that you are doing. Keep living a deliberately lifestyle and you may end up losing everything you have. The way you life your life is affecting your whole family. Keep going like everything is ok, but one day you will wake up to reality and your life will really stink. You want everyone to think you are at peace with God, but on the inside you know you are in tumult. You will get away from God and you will go to sleep because you don’t want to hear from God. You know if you are asleep God will not talk to you. The thing of it is though; you do not have to have anyone to tell you that your life stinks. You already know it stinks. God will send a storm your way, and it may be then that you remember who God really is. It may be that the storm will cause you to remember who God is and then you will finally start getting some help in your life spiritually. How many storms are you bringing on yourself because you stink, or get to the place where you do not care? God still wants to talk to you. Even though you have hurt Him, and disobeyed Him, He still wants to talk to you. God wants to talk to you more than you want to talk to Him. God wants to make you better than what you are now, but He cannot do it if you keep stinking. Does your life stink? Your life does not have to stink. You can get it cleaned up, you just have to call out to God in prayer and tell God you need help and that you are sorry.
