Ransom – Release of a person or property in turn for a payment.  To deliver from sin and its consequences.

Jesus is a ransom for ALL.

A ransom is trading something for something.

  1. Trade lost for saved – v. 4a

Saved – Rescued from danger; save from a disease that’s incurable.

There is a God that wants to rescue you from the danger you are in if you are lost.

Sin is incurable.  You cannot do anything to change it.

Titus 2:11

Isaiah 45:22

Sin keeps you, sin fights you.  Satan paints a good picture of the false joy of sin.

Jesus has already paid the ransom for your sin.

God takes your nothing to give you salvation.

When you finally realize you are drowning, that is when you will accept the offer of salvation.

  1. Trade a lie for the truth – v. 4b

Come – To leave one place to go to another.

Leaving where you are at to come to the truth.

The devil is a liar and the father of it.

You have to realize you have to come on your own or you will not come.

Truth – Precise or correct knowledge, the knowledge of the truth.

Ezekiel 3:11-12

There is no reason to die in your sin and go to hell when the ransom has already been paid for your sin.

The devil will do his best to make you believe a lie. He will tell you that you can live in the world and you will be OK.

  1. Trade my god for the One big God – v. 5

What a trade that is.

In the world there is so many gods that you can have.

Jesus will give you a new Master that does not end in death and destruction, but will end in life for evermore.

Why would somebody with something trade something for nothing?  It is only because of love.

Jesus paid the ransom for something worthless.

Hebrews 7:25

The day you get born again you leave with everything.  You get the best deal in salvation.

  1. Trade places with restored peace

Without God you are trying to be the mediator.

You cannot mediate your way to God.  You cannot get to God without Jesus.

Our righteousness (what we think is right and good) is as filthy rags in the sight of Jesus.

God has already made peace for you.

If you do not get saved you are going to pay for something that has already been paid for.

We do not have to try to appease God any longer.

God took our non-functioning life and gave us a functioning life.

Bring your brokenness to God and He will make you whole again.
