“The Evil Spirit”

1 Samuel 16:13-14

This is a continuation from the message Pastor preached on Sunday night.

Romans 7:15-25

Vs. 24-25 is the verses that separated Paul from Saul

When you get tired of fighting the evil that is around you will succumb to that which is evil.  That is the reason we must keep fighting.

  1. Caused Saul not to battle like he had battled at one time

Saul fought against David more than anything else in his life.

You will harm those God has His hand upon when you succumb to evil.

Saul had very few battles after this.

If you get your focus off God your whole focus will be off.

If you give sin a second thought that is when sin will begin to creep in.

  1. Not satisfied with just one thing

Jealousy hooked up with the evil spirit.

Murder also hooked up with the evil spirit and jealousy.

The evil spirit just keeps piling thing on you.

At one time Saul could deal with the evil spirit, but there came a day when he could no longer deal with it and it got worse.

Saul never was satisfied again.

There is a battle going on and evil is always present.

Succumb to the evil and it will just keep growing.

  1. Allowed him to continue in his position without the presence of God – 1 Samuel 10:6-7

Saul knew what it was like for God to be with him and he also knew what it was like for God to not be with him.

He became satisfied without the presence of God on his life.

Do you care if God is with you or not?

He learned to function without God.

Somebody is watching how you function where it is with God or without God.

We have gotten so comfy the presence and work of God does not matter anymore.

Saul was not going to repent of his ways.

The killer of churches today is the absence of repentance.

  1. Would not let him see the people that really cared about him

He had taken on so much of the world he could not see those that loved him.

You deviate to evil and the ones that helped you the most are hurt the most by your actions.

It happened because it built up over time.

Evil is against God and the ore evil you have the more you hate the things of God and the people of God.

We all fight different evils but the results are the same.

When your focus gets off evil and on someone, you are in trouble.

  1. Allowed him to destroy his family.

Jonathan had a good Spirit about him.

1 Samuel 19:4-5

He had a kindred spirit with David.

Jonathan begged his father not to go the way he was going.  His own children could not help him or change him.

Saul and his 3 sons died together in battle.

You will not get away from turning to evil.

When daddy goes away, the family goes as well.

He was not going to obey God that is why the kingdom was taken away from his dynasty.

There is no place of repentance; he was not going to change.

Your sin never affects just you.

Ephesians 6:12-13

When you cannot withstand, just stand; why? Because we are vulnerable to the evil day.

The devil wants to get your focus off God.

David had to fix the mess Saul made.
