Verse 37 is the key verse of this whole passage.

The least likely, the least liked is the hero in this story.

Who looks up to you, who things of you as their hero?

  1. The road is filled with hurts.

The road was filled with barrenness, it was filled with blood, and it was filled with burdens.

The world is out to strip you of all that you have, and leave you with nothing.

The devil doesn’t care who you are or where you’ve come from; the devil wants to destroy you and strip you of everything that you have.

  1. The road is filled with helplessness.
  2. a) The Levite is religion.

Religion said he was of no value to anyone or to the church.

Religion said there was no hope for him.

  1. b) The Priest is the law

The law sad he needed to get it all fixed before he could be helped and used.

No one can do the law without help from God.

  1. c) The Samaritan is us gentiles.

The Samaritan had been done wrong all his life, yet he had compassion on him.

You are to be the helper because we know what it’s like to be in his position.

Our neighbor needs someone to go to them.

We need to be willing to get down where they are at.

The man was beaten and of no value, but it didn’t stop the Samaritan.

You should help your neighbor because that is what you are supposed to do.

You have to look beyond the value of what you can see.

There is potential if you can get help to them.

He didn’t wait for the hurting to come to him, he went to him.

He was prepared to help someone.

To help people you have to inconvenience yourself.

He had done this before and he knew the inn that he took him too would take care of him.

Your purpose is to be a hero to someone else, to be a help to someone in need.
