What a privilege and honor it was to be in the Lord’s house tonight, amongst His people, and to hear His message.  What a tremendous, and powerful, and timely message our Pastor preached tonight.

Pastor preached on “Why Demas Left” out of 2 Timothy 4:6-11.  Demas fell in love.  This is what his problem was.  He fell in love with the world.  If we fall in love with the Lord, we will leave just like Demas did.  We only care about that which we fall in love with.  The devil is out to fish us with the things of this world to try to get us to fall in love with the world.  Quitting became an option to Demas, which is how he was able to leave the Lord.  If we are to stay with God, we have to get quitting out of the option for our life.  Somewhere along the way, the word “quit” became a part of Demas’ vocabulary.  He got selfish, and all Demas wanted was what Demas wanted.  Before Demas left Paul, he had already left the Lord.  The devil will put in an attitude of selfishness in our life to get us to love the world.  Demas also forgot for those that he helped.  Before we quit, we need to look around us and look at those that we have helped.  If we get out tonight, and it does not affect someone, that is sad.  We should have helped at least one person in our life.  If we have not helped someone, we need to get in God’s business.  Demas forgot the blessings of God.  He forgot how good and how great God had been to him.  It is a dangerous thing to forget the blessings of God on our life.  We should NEVER forget God’s blessings on our life.  Demas forgot those he would leave behind.  Paul was hurt when Demas left (vs. 9-10).  Demas didn’t realize just how important he was to Paul.  When we quit, we will hurt those that we leave behind.  There was one blessing and help in this story, and that was there was somebody that stayed – Luke.  Paul and Luke did not allow themselves to be affected by Demas and the choice he made on his life.  They were not blindsided by his actions, they saw it coming.  Luke made up his mind to not fall in love with what Demas loved.  What mattered in this Scripture was that Demas was not there when Paul woke up.  Before we ever leave the church, we will have already left the Lord.  Before we get away from the Lord, we need to stop and think before we take action.  We really do matter to the Lord, and we really do matter to others.  Do not become like Demas and forsake the Lord and forsake the house of God and the man of God.  Stay like Luke did.  The problems Demas went through was not what caused him to get away from the Lord.  What caused him to get away from the Lord was his love.  Where is our love at?
