“You Have to Fight for Your Family”

Nehemiah 4:7-20

There is no such thing as a victory without a fight.  Sometimes in life we get discouraged because of the continual fight that we are in.  We must remember we are going to fight all of our life.  The only way we are not going to fight is if we do not build, we do not do anything.  If we never battle, it is because we are never building.  Just because we have past victories does not mean our enemy will not fight us.

The fight is about our family.  If we are going to be successful, we have to fight for our family.  Every fight we face stems around the family.

Some things we must fight:

  1. We must fight false reports v. 3

In this verse Sanballat and Tobiah are making fun of the children of Israel and bringing up false reports.

The world will make false reports about how we are raising out children, saying that it cannot be done today.

If the devil can make us believe the false reports he will get us to quit building.

If we keep believing the false reports we will give up all together.

The devil will try to convince us if we are not careful that his false reports are real.  If he convinces us we will have succumbed to the pressure of the devil.

The devil will give us the false report that it just cannot be done.

The devil will try to convince us that it cannot be done, and we cannot do it.

  1. We must fight against being faint of heart – v. 10

Those that are overwhelmed were getting discouraged in the fight.  This same truth holds true for today as well.  People get overwhelmed and then we get discouraged.

They are overwhelmed here and they cannot remember chapter 3.

If we are not careful we will build and we will forget all the good things that have happened in our lives.

When we are faint of heart we just feel like it is just too much to go on.

If we are not careful the flesh will overwhelm us.

  1. We must fight against fear – v. 14

Fear will keep us from doing what we need to do.

Fear will cause us to no do our best.

We do not need to be afraid of whom we are fighting, and we need to remember the Lord.

If we are still building today, we are better than what we were 2 years ago.

The devils tactic is to make us scared.

We must stay focused in the battle, because if we do not, we will forget why we are building.

  1. We must fight fatigue – v.17

They got fatigued from working all the time; they just got tired of working.

If we are not careful we will get disgusted at our self wondering why we did what we did.

They not only had to work, but they also had an enemy to look for while they were working.

  1. We must fight to keep a faithful trumpet blower – v. 18

All the trumpet blower had in his hands was a trumpet.

If anything was to happen, he was to blow his trumpet which mean they were going out to fight.

If the Pastor quits blowing the trumpet, we need to get a new pastor.

  1. We must fight to finish – 6:15

The wall was finally finished.

They finished because they had a view, and they got refocused on building.

They got refocused on why they were building the wall.

If you don’t get your family in view, you will have a hard time finishing.

Fight for your family.  If you do not have a family, fight for the families in your church.  Stay focused on why you are building, and do not let the devil get your focus off the real reason you are building.  Why should you keep building?  Build for your family and for others.  You have to fight for your family.
